The Head Start Curriculum

Providing the best start to your child’s future, from any age

Child led education. Child led decisions to build ownership, participation, resilience and confidence. Inspired by educators to develop curiosity and enquiry.

Positive Relationships

Secure, supported and reciprocal relationships are the heart of our education program that leads private early learning centres across Melbourne. From positive relationships come positive interactions that allow your child to develop fully, as they’ll always be engaged. An engaged child is empowered to express their ideas and make choices about their learning.

We recognise that as learners, children are:

  1. competent, capable and creative.
  2. secure, connected and respectful.
  3. happy, playful and curious.
  4. confident, motivated and involved.
  5. inquisitive, both as problem posers and problem solvers.

Active Learning Environment

At Little Learners Early Education, we seek to provide an active learning environment for your child at our kindergarten and childcare centre in South Morang (North Melbourne). Active learning involves an active search for meaning by the learner, constructing knowledge rather than passively receiving it, and shaping it, as well as being shaped by the experience.

This includes:

  1. a safe, responsive and reciprocal relationship between the educator and your child,
  2. allowing your child to apply their unique interests, strengths and skills to individually designed activities.
  3. high expectations for each child and an understanding of their capacity to contribute to their community.

Learning Through Play

Children learn best through play and age-appropriate challenges. They’re active learners who make sense of their world and themselves when they have opportunities to investigate and explore materials and ideas through play and interactions with people.

At our early learning centre and preschool, all activities are learning experiences that children are invited to join and have fun exploring their abilities and knowledge.

We love Little Learners so much. My son runs in the door and I feel so relieved that he is happy and learning so much. Mady, Poppy and Steph are amazing and he will miss it so much when he leaves for Prep. Michelle is an amazing centre manager who helped me with all my questions and queries. Thanks so much for the excellent care

Little Learners has great facilities and a fantastic education program. I have seen such a development and learning change in my son. He loves going there and talks about his educators and friends every night. They are up to date technology wise and parents get daily updates as well. We love the Echidna room! Seeing how excited he is on our way there every day makes me feel like I have made the right decision. Keep up the great work.

I’ve been to heaps of new centres in this area but you have to check out Little Learners! Their outdoor yards are as good as they are in the pictures. Their staff and management are so supportive and they’ve helped me and my family through many challenges. I had a great orientation and they spent heaps of time getting to know me and my little miss. They’ve given my little one the best start and I’m so grateful for them!

We provide breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and a late snack.

Our meals are prepared fresh on the premises by a qualified chef, created under the national guidelines for children’s nutrition and daily intake and endorsed by Nutrition Australia. We source food and produce from reputable suppliers that are registered and approved. Our nutritious meals provide your child with the fuel needed to support their growth and development!

We cater to the individual dietary needs of each child and have stringent policies and procedures in place for food allergies, cultural practices, and other restrictions.  Upon enrolment, we require notification of your child’s needs, plan meals and safety practices accordingly, and maintain individual Action Plans for all food allergies or diagnosed anaphylaxis.

We are also involved in “The Victorian Prevention and Health Promotion Achievement Program” which encourages healthy eating and exercise to prevent childhood obesity.

Meal and Snack Times

Within our meal routines, one of our practices is to provide independence.  We encourage this through children feeding themselves when appropriate and having a choice at snack times. For example, children in the kindergarten room will be serving themselves all their meals as well as pouring their own drinks under supervision.

Children spend meal times together as a group and we utilise this time as a social experience. Younger children may have meals and snacks at different times throughout the day to support their individual routines.

I can’t recommend this facility enough. My 2 year old is in the Platypus room and loves it dearly, and is literally pushing me out of bed each morning to get up so he can go. His teachers are amazing and I feel blessed to have my son in this environment. A fantastic 5 star facility, very modern, amazing, loving, caring staff and excellent teaching programs. Keep up the great work guys xxx

South Morang Community Garden

To Plant a Garden is to Believe in Tomorrow

We believe in a sustainable future, and we know that we are stewards of the planet.  Teaching our children to respect and care for Earth is part of our curriculum and an essential part of their learning journey as they come to understand their responsibilities as global citizens.  And what better way to teach sustainability, stewardship, and citizenry than by creating a garden in the public space next to our Centre for all to enjoy?

With free produce that anyone can pick and take home to use, the South Morang Community Garden was created in partnership with the Whittlesea Council and supported by local businesses.  Everyone in our community is welcome – neighbours, individuals, families, residents in our area – to take the free food that is grown, to help care for the garden, to plant sustainably, and to enjoy the Garden as a recreational facility for relaxation, family gatherings, picnics, quiet time, games, and fun!

Facilities and features are continually added to the Community Garden – great gardens grow over time! We’ll continue to develop ideas and we welcome your feedback.  Would you like to participate and maintain a garden bed?  What facilities would you like to see in the Garden?  We’d love to know your thoughts.
